Throughout the Bible, Jesus used people in spite of their problems or failures. Matthew probably didn’t have very many friends. He was a Jew who worked for the Roman government. He was a tax collector. Nobody likes tax collectors. Matthew was dishonest and driven by greed. He thought that money was the most important thing in life that he violated God’s law to get rich at the expense of the people. But Jesus called him and told him to follow Him; and he did. (Matthew 9:9) How many times has God called you?

Then there was Peter who was emotionally unstable, self-sufficient, impulsive and would lose his temper. In reading through the Bible, it seems like Peter messed up a lot. In Matthew 14:22-31 we read that Peter was walking on water trusting in Jesus, and then he messed up. He took his eyes off Jesus as he started sinking. Sometimes we sink in our problems when we take our eyes off of Jesus. We think we’ve messed up so bad that we don’t reach our hand out to Him and ask for help.

In spite of our failures and our past mistakes, God can still use us for His glory. When we come to Him and He saves us, He washes our past mistakes away forever. (Isaiah 43:25; Isaiah 38:17; Psalm 103:12)

Have you ever felt like God can’t use you? I’m so messed up…I have too many problems…I’ve messed up so bad in the past…If God used Matthew and Peter, He could use you. Nothing is impossible with God and He can turn something messy into something good.

Mateo probablemente no tenía muchos amigos.

Youth Service Study Recap

This month's youth service was about bringing light into this dark world. John 8:12 tells us that Jesus is the Light of the world, and to anyone who believes in Him, He promises to bring light into our lives. Once we accept that light, it's our job to bring that light to those living in darkness.

What would it be like to live without light? Imagine walking through a room filled with stuff in total darkness. You would probably get all bruised up bumping into everything right? What would you need to do to see where you’re going? You would turn on the light right? Just as you would turn on the light to walk through that dark room, we need the Light of Jesus to walk through this dark world. Jesus tells us in John 12:46: " I have come to the world as its light to keep anyone who believes in Me from remaining in the darkness. "

Jesus’ light is offered to everyone, but each of us has to make the decision to accept or reject His light. Are you living in darkness? Do you want to leave that darkness behind? Then commit your life and put your trust in Jesus who said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Praise be to God, 5 youth members made a commitment to God tonight to bring the light of Christ to this world!
